Bhyve and Grub

In attempting to install linux (Debian in this case) under bhyve I sought out and followed the common guidance: use uefi and not grub.

Using uefi is reportedly capable of all that grub does, plus a graphical installation process. I don’t care about graphical install but followed the advice anyway.

What a mistake!

The installation process fails immediately. I’m using vm-bhyve and there is a reported bug in how a recent version of sysutils/edk2 handles options passed to bhyve. And there is a vm-bhyve PR that may provide a workaround.

But falling back to grub allowed me to install and met my needs.
