Tablet Hotels: From Failing Platform to 10x Traffic Growth
Situation: Tablet Hotels operated a worldwide hotel reservation platform in 8 languages. The platform was failing – unreliable, unable to handle growing traffic, and threatening the company’s revenue trajectory.
Problem found: The legacy system had accumulated years of architectural shortcuts that made it brittle under load. The team was trapped in a cycle of patching symptoms rather than addressing the structural weakness. The real constraint wasn’t any single bug – it was an architecture that couldn’t handle existing traffic.
Action: Led the rescue of the legacy system. Identified the structural bottlenecks, prioritized the changes that would unlock capacity. Inverted the model from single process multi-threaded to multi-process single threaded to achieve scale and regain reliability.
Result:- 10x increase in reservation traffic capacity
- 14% year-over-year revenue growth sustained
- Approximate 100% uptime achieved
Proclivity Systems: 50x Speed in Predictive Modeling
Situation: Proclivity Systems ran a predictive modeling platform for marketing. The core modeling pipeline was too slow to keep pace with client demand, and the company was spending most of its engineering resources on operations rather than development.
Problem found: The pipeline’s performance bottleneck was in multiple places: core data modeling, and reporting. The processing architecture had fundamental inefficiencies that required broad optimization. The reporting needed to be separated from core processing. The engineers were firefighting instead of building.
Action: Split the team to focus separate groups on core processing and reporting optimizations. Rebuild core processing architecture to eliminate the structural bottleneck. Introduce Kafka and simple ML to handle reporting load. Automated client onboarding to free staff for feature development, doubling the company’s capacity to serve clients.
Result:- 50-fold improvement in core predictive-modeling processing speed
- Client roster doubled
- Engineering team rebalanced from operations to development
Vertalo: Building a SEC-Compliant Digital Asset Platform
Situation: The opportunity was to create a platform bridging the gap between traditional and digital securities within SEC regulations.
Problem found: No existing platform handled the full lifecycle: investor onboarding, cap table management, regulatory compliance, and digital security issuance across multiple blockchains. Building this required deep understanding of both securities regulation and distributed systems architecture.
Action: Invented and implemented a token protocol supporting seamless transitions between traditional and tokenized assets, and between multiple distributed ledgers. Built integrations with the other regulated roles for the industry.
Co-founded and served as CTO. Designed and built the platform from the ground up as an API-first system. Integrated with tZero and XY Labs for what became the largest digital security listing (25k+ subscribers). Designed and operated a SEC-compliant Transfer Agent. Issued 48 digital securities across Ethereum and Tezos. Designed auditable real-world asset tokenization for Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing.
Result:- Platform supporting 100k+ investors
- Registered with SEC as transfer agent and passed audits
- Held $500M+ assets under management
- Issued 48 digital securities on multiple distributed ledgers
- Grew company to 30 people
- Performed largest digital security listing (25k+ subscribers)
- Bridge between traditional and digital securities established
Goldman Sachs: 84% Waste Identified
